Topics Covered
Evidence-Based Medicine in O&G
- ›Critically appraising clinical evidence — study hierarchy, NNT, ARR
- ›NICE guideline interpretation — how evidence is graded
- ›Clinical audit cycle — standards, measurement, change, re-audit
- ›Risk management in O&G — reporting incidents, near misses
Clinical Scenarios
- ›Applying pharmacology to clinical case questions
- ›Applying microbiology knowledge to infection management scenarios
- ›Applying genetics to genetic counselling scenarios
- ›Normal vs abnormal physiology in pregnancy scenarios
- ›Critical appraisal of investigation results (sensitivity/specificity in clinical context)
Exam Tips for Clinical Management
Clinical Management questions are often basic science questions in a clinical coat — identify the underlying subject (pharmacology, genetics etc.) and apply those rules.
This is the smallest subject — do not over-invest time here. Practise these question types last.
NICE guidelines for common O&G conditions (pre-eclampsia, GDM, preterm labour, PPH) are referenced in these questions.
Evidence-based medicine questions often require knowing when to use which study design and how to interpret NNT and ARR.
